Mark has served as Pastor at Orenco Church since October of 1983. Following his education at California State University (Sacramento) and Fuller Theological Seminary, he served churches in Red Bluff, California, and Oregon City, Oregon. His wife, Lisa, is a 6th grade teacher at Orenco Elementary School. Mark and Lisa have three adult children: Sarah (married to James), Ben (married to Carly), and Alyssa.
Mark's favorite book of the Bible is the Apostle Paul's letter to the Philippians, his favorite passage shared with him by an uncle: "This is my prayer, that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God" (1:9-11).
Mark often plays piano or guitar with our worship team, follows Bay Area sports teams, and likes to shoot hoops.
Rachel has been a full-time pastor at Orenco since 2015 but joined our staff in 2007; she spent the first part of her ministry career in youth ministry and also developed our Alpha ministry. Some of our mission and community outreach events are her favorite events, like serving meals at HomePlate Youth Services and hosting our annual Parents' Lounge. Rachel is also a certified Spiritual Director.
Rachel and her husband Brian met at the University of Portland, where Rachel studied Psychology and Theology. She went on to earn her Master of Divinity degree at George Fox Evangelical Seminary (Portland Seminary). They have three children, Grace (14) and twins Samuel and Rebekah (10), and are a US Army National Guard family. Rachel enjoys camping and the outdoors, running and staying active, researching tiny houses, studying scripture, and any cup of coffee.
Rachel's greatest inspirations and joys in ministry come from quiet moments with people, while preaching, and helping people who are grieving. She says she is especially excited about helping newcomers to Orenco Church get connected with others and mentoring young leaders in ministry.
When not in the office, Rachel can be found at Insomnia, walking around the neighborhood, or exploring the Northwest with her family.
Jake has been tickling the ivories and strumming the tunes at our church since the summer of 2014 when he and his wife, Julie, moved to Portland from Tucson, Arizona. Jake graduated from Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in education and a minor in music. While in school, he discovered his passion for teaching and music. He believes that God has led him here for a purpose that is being fulfilled by leading the music.
During his free time, Jake enjoys going to the movies, playing basketball, hanging around the house, and occasionally going snowboarding in the winter. He is a daddy to two kids and hopes to start a little family band someday.
Julie has attended Orenco Church since the summer of 2014. Since that time, she has volunteered at children's events and activities, as well as with the youth group. Julie is a licensed teacher; she spent two years teaching first grade in Arizona before moving to Oregon where she taught kindergarten at a private Christian school for a year. Her passion and dream in life has always been to work with children and to instill in them a love of learning. She is excited to share the love of God and help the children of Orenco Church grow in their relationship with Him!
Julie and her husband, Jake, have a son and daughter and love watching them grow up. Julie enjoys crafting with all things glitter, watching movies, and going on walks with her family (including her spoiled dog, Rosie!).
Jennifer has been attending Orenco Presbyterian Church since she was a child but started serving at Orenco regularly in 2015; she first worked as a volunteer in youth ministries and then became a pastoral assistant in the winter of 2017. She began serving as our Youth Director in the fall of 2018.
Jennifer has always had a passion for working with youth and has many years of experience mentoring and guiding teens. Jennifer graduated Western Oregon University with a B.S. in psychology with an emphasis in adolescent growth and development, and a minor in the teaching of mathematics. Later she completed her Master of Education at George Fox University with endorsements in Mathematics and English as a Second Language. After finishing her education, Jennifer taught in both the private and public school setting for seven years, working mostly with middle and high school aged students. During her teaching years, Jennifer saw a need for mentorship in young women, so she began a group called Girls of Grace which is a teen ministry for teen girls. Due to this ministry, Jennifer discovered she had a deep desire to want to lead teens towards Jesus, so in 2015 she began working with Impact—Orenco’s Youth Group—in addition to continuing Girls of Grace.
Jennifer is married to her husband John and they have two kids: Joshua, age 11, and Evelyn, who just turned one. In her free time, she loves to go for long walks with her family, watch old 80’s movies, and go camping in the great northwest. If Jennifer could be anywhere at any moment she would be hiking in the wilderness near the Mackenzie River.
