  • Mark Rainey

    senior pastor

Mark has served as Pastor at Orenco Church since October of 1983. Following his education at California State University (Sacramento) and Fuller Theological Seminary, he served churches in Red Bluff, California, and Oregon City, Oregon. His wife, Lisa, is a teacher at Orenco Elementary School. Mark and Lisa have three adult children: Sarah (married to James), Ben (married to Carly), and Alyssa.

Mark enjoyed reading Tod Bolsinger's Canoeing the Mountains recently and shares the importance of doing things differently in today's church. "Leadership is energizing a community of people toward their own transformation in order to accomplish a shared mission in the face of a changing world." Mark adds, "It's true we have to do things differently. While God's message remains unchanged, we must always look to new ways to tell and live out God's great news to us."

Mark often plays piano or guitar with our worship team, follows Bay Area sports teams, and likes to shoot hoops.

  • Rachel Stramel

    associate Pastor

Rachel is our Associate Pastor and has been on staff at Orenco since 2007. Rachel is also a certified Spiritual Director. She says one of the first times she sensed a call to ministry was as she looked at all of the opportunities in her home church and wondered how she could do all of them! While she loves the variety and challenges that come with being a pastor, her first love is youth ministry, and she still enjoys a good game of sardines on occasion. She loves to preach, mentor younger leaders, and listen to those who are grieving and in the harder seasons of life. Rachel also serves as a PRN Chaplain at Hillsboro Medical Center, making rounds at Tuality Hospital about once a week. Rachel is most excited about the Soteria Children's Initiative at Orenco, launched during the pandemic. She has a heart for kids and teens and believes the church is called to minister to families.

Rachel and her husband Brian met at the University of Portland, where Rachel studied Psychology and Theology. She went on to earn her Master of Divinity degree at George Fox Evangelical Seminary (Portland Seminary). They have three children, Grace, Samuel, Rebekah, and are a US Army National Guard family. Rachel enjoys camping and the outdoors, running and staying active, researching tiny houses, studying scripture, and any cup of coffee.

  • Jennifer Schatz

    YOUTH DIRECTOR

Jennifer has been attending Orenco Presbyterian Church since she was a child but started serving at Orenco regularly in 2015; she first worked as a volunteer in youth ministries and then became a pastoral assistant in the winter of 2017. She began serving as our Youth Director in the fall of 2018.

Jennifer has always had a passion for working with youth and has many years of experience mentoring and guiding teens. Jennifer graduated Western Oregon University with a B.S. in psychology with an emphasis in adolescent growth and development, and a minor in the teaching of mathematics.  Later she completed her Master of Education at George Fox University with endorsements in Mathematics and English as a Second Language. After finishing her education, Jennifer taught in both the private and public school setting for seven years, working mostly with middle and high school aged students. During her teaching years, Jennifer saw a need for mentorship in young women, so she began a group called Girls of Grace which is a teen ministry for teen girls.  Due to this ministry, Jennifer discovered she had a deep desire to want to lead teens towards Jesus, so in 2015 she began working with Impact—Orenco’s Youth Group—in addition to continuing Girls of Grace.

Jennifer is married to her husband John and they have three kids: Joshua, Evelyn, and Quinton, who is still an infant. In her free time, she loves to go for long walks with her family, watch old 80’s movies, and go camping in the great northwest.  If Jennifer could be anywhere at any moment she would be hiking in the wilderness near the Mackenzie River.
