HomePlate Youth Services provides an important service to homeless or displaced youth and young adults in Washington County. Youth have access to drop-in centers, meals, and street outreach through this unique ministry. It is our privilege to cook and serve meals for these youth approximately once per quarter. Please contact us to get involved with this important ministry and mission.
Family Promise is a nationwide organization that uses existing resources in an interfaith network of local congregations. Families receive meals and overnight lodging at churches in the community, which take turns sheltering families one week at at time. A piece of our mission giving is for Family Promise, and we are excited to prepare food for the families they serve and strengthen our relationship with Family Promise.
Our women's ministry hosts a staff appreciation treat each spring for Orenco Elementary School. Connected to Orenco through our church's history, we also help students in need of school supplies, activity fees, and clothing throughout the district.
We are proud of our local relationship with Saving Grace Maternity Home, here in Orenco. Saving Grace just opened their doors in their new home, which will allow them to serve four young women at a time who are homeless and experiencing unplanned or crisis pregnancies. These women receive training and education, assistance with job placement and finding housing, and other forms of life-giving help. At Orenco Church we are committed to our support of those at Saving Grace, as well as its directors, Skip and Cindy Sorum.
What is a per capita payment? This per-member apportionment is the way we share costs of administrative, legislative, and judicial functions as a denomination. These expenses are separate from the Cascades Presbytery program and its budgeted costs. While not "mission," this payment is made to our presbytery, as the presbytery gives to the larger church on our behalf.
